In 2014 Australia had a rainfall average of 472 millimeters above previous years and providing an ever increasing tester Australia's ageing stormwater infrastructure. Permeable paving is an innovative sustainable and proven solution to these important water
sensitive urban design issues. Permeable paving uses purpose designed segmental paving units and specially graded base materials which allows up to 95% of surface stormwater to infiltrate through the pavement surface rather than pooling on the pavement surface or running into drains. Excess surface water flows through the special voids in the pavement filtering into the selected sub base aggregate. This solution can be designed to release water into the
stormwater network at a controlled rate or better still allow rainfall to be captured and either returned to the water table or recycled for a range of applications.
